A ring of gain dexterity is a type of ring that appears in SLASH'EM, UnNetHack, DynaHack, and SlashTHEM.

Generation

General stores and jewelers shops can sell rings of gain dexterity in all listed variants.

In SLASH'EM and SlashTHEM, Flame Mages, Ice Mages and Necromancers may be given a ring of gain dexterity as the random ring in their starting inventory.[1][2][3] Wizards may be given a ring of gain dexterity as one of the two random rings in their starting inventory.[4]

In UnNetHack and DynaHack, Wizards may be given a ring of gain dexterity as one of the two random rings in their starting inventory.

Description

A hero putting on a ring of gain dexterity alters their dexterity by its enchantment while it is worn, and a ring that modifies the hero's dexterity (i.e., it is not +0) is auto-identified when put on or removed.[5][6] The ring can be charged to increase its enchantment. Monsters will not wear this ring.

A hero eating the ring has a 13 chance of successfully absorbing its magic and gaining a temporary bonus or penalty to dexterity based on the ring's enchantment[7][8]—this auto-identifies the ring if this bonus changes the hero's dexterity, and lasts until the hero changes forms or returns to normal.

Strategy

In SLASH'EM and SlashTHEM, the ring of gain dexterity is potentially valuable early on, due to the bonuses that high dexterity can grant to the hero's AC.

Messages

The water flow seems <slower/faster> now.
You dropped a ring of gain dexterity down a sink: "slower" is used for rings with an enchantment below +0, and "faster" is used otherwise.
